1) Possible: 5 of Swords - Defeat
Crowley: "Weakness rather than excess of strength seems to be the cause of the disaster....The defeat is due to pacifism."
I am pretty familiar with this one. A phone call not made or an errand avoided turns into some kind of mess.
What type of defeat/what thing needs to be dealt with? The Princess of Swords. Crowley again: "She is firm and aggressive, with great practical wisdom and subtlety in material things."
Oh, right. ALL OF THE THINGS. Just handle it. WTF, cards?
2) Important: III - The Empress
Crowley: "This card, summed up, may be called the Gate of Heaven. But, because of the beauty of the symbol, because of its omniform presentation, the student who is dazzled by any given manifestation may be lead astray."
Oooh, pretty! What door?
This resonates with me particularly well considering some of the things that have been buzzing about in my head and conversations lately.
Also, I think I just figured out the 5 of Swords up there. There is definitely an e-mail that needs to be sent.
3) Courageous: 7 of Wands - Valour
Crowley: "This card brings out the defect inherent in the idea of Mars. Patriotism, so to speak, is not enough." Also, "It is as if the wavering fire summoned the brutal energy of Mars to its support....But this is not enough...."
The image of adding some Mars into the fire is cool. Despite Crowley's talk of imbalance and insufficiency, the 7 of Wands is definitely a war that can be won. (He says, "by dint of individual valour.") It is won with busting ass and pulling on all available resources even if they're not perfect, even if the smell of the fire is a little off, even if you're going to have a headache from the fumes tomorrow.
But if the 5 of Swords is possible, and the 7 of Wands is courageous, pulling on all available resources is exactly what must happen.
4) Futile: 10 of Cups - Satiety
Not going to get everything I want today. Alternately, "it is discovered that, having got everything one wanted, one did not want it after all."
5) Necessary: 10 of Wands - Oppression
Yesterday, this was "important." Today it's necessary. I don't know what to do with it, though.
Keywords points out the importance of "recognizing limitations." Maybe we'll go with that.
6) Joyful: 4 of Cups - Luxury
Easy. Next.
7) Funny: V - The Hierophant
Some inside joke about the nature of the universe and who really has the power. The downside of this 8-card bullshit is that by the time I get down to card 6 or 7, I have absolutely stopped caring.
8) Helpful: IV - The Emperor
"...his energy has reached a successful issue, that his government has been established."
What is helpful is the already established things, the base of power.
